Brian Tochi aka Takashi
I don't know why, but I always thought that Takashi was funny as hell in ROTN. I mean, he did kick ass in the beer guzzling tricycle race right? And he's a big fan of the hair pie, so you gotta love him. In retrospect however, he was stereotyped hard as shit, played out to be gullible because of his weak English skills. Well, unknown to me, this is Brian Tochi, and he's been in at least 83 acting roles in movies and on TV. Although this Asian-American was born and raised in L.A., damn was he type-casted. Here are some other noticeable roles he's played:
Revenge of the Nerds series: Takashi
Police Academy series: Nogota
Kung Fu: Ho Fong
The Amazing Chan and Chan-Chan: Who else, but Chan?
Mortal Kombat: Liu Kang
Silent Force: Kim Pao
What's New Scooby Doo: Hakimoto
Family Guy: Asian Police Pilot
Codename Kids Next Door: Cheese Ninja Leader
Samurai Jack: Boy
Fight Club: Fight Bully
Of course, he's been in numerous other movies, but after checking out the character names I can't help but to think that in Hollywood the execs are saying something like, “They all look the same anyways.”
I AM the Editor
Do you nerd out? No? Well I nerd right the fuck out. Nowadays, if you wanna make anything cool ya kinda gotta nerd out a bit. Shit, I just spent a whole day watching all of the Revenge of the Nerds movies for this issue. Not to mention all the nerding that goes into making this trashy Zine. Layout, writing, transcribing, surfing web pages, editing friends out, and getting wasted. (Well, I guess getting wasted doesn't count.)
My point is that if I saw my current self through the looking glass some odd years ago, I would have kicked me in the balls and slapped me in the earhole. Anything less than being out 24/7 scoring, slanging, skating and scamming was pussy. Computers? Didn't own one. Internet? What's that? Mobile phone? Why? I knew where everyone was that counted. Bar, skate spot, $1 theatre, pool hall, or just on the fuckin' street corner.
For the now nerded-out me, Japan is a fuckin' paradise. The vastness of tech toys, comics, art, porn, music, shops, galleries, and all the oddities that go with them are crazy as shit. But then again sometimes I wish I could go back to the old days when all you needed was a 40 ouncer, a fat sack, a skate, and a few good friends to make life all good.
